David Orberson, Vice President- Risk Management, Churchill Downs Incorporated

David Orberson is the Vice President of Risk Management for Churchill Downs Incorporated, and has been in the insurance and risk management industry for over 30 years. He also earned a PhD in Comparative Humanities and is the author of two books about the life and thought of Thomas Merton.

 Britt Roarx, Director of Property and Casualty Risk, Texas Roadhouse

Britt is a 31 year veteran of the Risk Industry starting off as a Multi-line claims adjuster in Louisville, Kentucky. His career has led him to two different insurance carriers, a public utility company, a chemical manufacturer, and two restaurant companies. Britt has led GL litigation, Workers’ Compensation and Risk programs for over 21 years.

Britt joined Texas Roadhouse in 2009 to build on a strong Risk, Claims, and ERM program, including creation of a captive insurance company and building an in-house General Liability claims team. Britt serves as Director of Risk and oversees components of food safety, crisis response, OSHA, among many other things. Britt also serves on several boards including restaurant and retail, utility, and higher education. Texas Roadhouse is known for their consistent performance and growth in the Restaurant sector, with top performing programs to lead their peers in Total Cost of Risk and Innovative prevention strategies that work over time.

  Robert Barker, Managing Director, VNAS Risk, Inc

Robert Barker is a distinguished certified public accountant with over 25 years of experience in the insurance industry, specializing in the captive insurance markets. As the Managing Director of VNAS Captive, Robert leads a team of professionals dedicated to delivering comprehensive captive management services, including legal, actuarial, accounting, tax, claim adjudication, and general management.

Throughout his career, Robert has been instrumental in transforming traditional risk management approaches, enabling businesses to effectively identify and mitigate risks.  Josh Clark, Area Vice President, Captive Consultant, Gallagher

Josh Clark, a certified and accomplished captive insurance consultant, brings nearly two decades of experience in the Insurance and Risk Management industry to his role. Prior to joining Gallagher, he was appointed by the TN Commissioner of Insurance to a distinguished role focused on driving economic growth within the insurance sector. This appointment served as a testament to his expertise and dedication to the industry.

As a consultant, Josh is highly regarded for his technical expertise in traditional and captive insurance program design. Recently, his exceptional talent and influence were celebrated with the prestigious "Captive International 40 under 40" award by Captive International as well as “Power Broker” by Risk & Insurance magazine, recognizing his leadership and significant contributions. 

Josh's approach as a consultant goes beyond mere assessments. He works closely with clients to explore the potential of captive insurance solutions, offering innovative approaches and data-driven strategies. His commitment extends to serving as a dedicated advisor, ensuring the ongoing success and compliance of active captive insurance programs.

With a diverse background encompassing roles as an Excess & Surplus Underwriter, RMIS Consultant, Loss Control Manager, and Director of Risk Management, Josh brings a wealth of knowledge to every engagement. Holding a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management from Michigan State University and being an Associate in Captive Insurance (ACI), he continues to play an active role in the industry as a member of the Risk & Insurance Management Society, Tennessee Captive Insurance Association, and as a NextGen Committee Member of Captive Insurance Companies of America. Josh Clark remains a known contributor to the captive insurance landscape through consistent speaking engagements at industry events and contributions to industry publications.

 Ryan Murphy, District Manager, CorVel Corporation

Ryan Murphy is a seasoned professional with over 25 years of experience in the Workers’ Compensation and Risk Management industry. His career began as a Claims Adjuster and Senior Claims Specialist, progressing into leadership roles such as Claim Manager, Account Executive, and Director of Client Services. Ryan’s expertise spans multiple jurisdictions, including Illinois, Michigan, Kentucky, Wisconsin, and Indiana, where he has consistently delivered superior outcomes and value to clients.

Ryan joined CorVel Corporation in 2018 as a District Manager, where he ensures compliance with best practice standards and oversees the consistent delivery of CorVel’s quality services. His role also includes collaborating with sales and account management teams on RFP responses and presentations, as well as working with department managers to achieve superior outcomes across the region.

Prior to his current role, Ryan served as Director of Client Services at Sedgwick, where he managed a large national retail TPA program. His responsibilities included data and claim analysis, analytic reporting, pricing, and renewal processes, as well as overseeing liability and workers’ compensation programs to deliver measurable ROI for clients. Earlier in his career, Ryan held leadership positions at ESIS and CorVel Corporation, where he managed large national programs, ensured consistent claims service delivery, and drove business retention and growth.

Ryan holds a Master of Business Administration from Lewis University and a Bachelor of Arts from Monmouth College. His extensive experience and strategic approach to risk management have made him a trusted leader in the industry, known for delivering innovative solutions and exceptional results.
